My recent trip in March to the Archives Nationales d'Outre Mer in Aix-en-Provence [1] France yielded a fascinating collection of documents from the private archive of French Orientalist Roger LeTourneau (1907-1971). The "Fond LeTourneau" [APOM7/1-29] is made up of 29 cartons of personal papers, notes, letters, and other documents donated to the archives following LeTourneau's death [2]. Once I finish arranging my notes, I intend to upload a copy of my inventory of all 29 cartons for the benefit of others.
For now, I just wanted to quickly mention that in addition to his monumental work on the history of the city of Fez [3], LeTourneau worked for a time on two important elements of Ibadi history.
The first, which is the reason for my visit to the archives, was his work on the Kitāb al-sīra wa akhbār al-aʾimma of Abū Zakarīyāʾ al-Wārjalānī (d.11th c.). I'll be dealing with those documents in detail in the dissertation. The second, more unexpected collection of documents relates to his often-cited article on the revolt of Abū
Yazīd 'al-Nukkārī' against the Fatimids in the early 10th century. The stages of research for this
article, which he ultimately published in Les Cahiers de Tunisie in 1953 [4], can be followed step by step in his personal archive [see photo]. As someone currently in the process of conducting research and writing, I found it fascinating to watch as LeTourneau researched, edited, and revised this study from beginning to end. The second photo is a stack of his lecture notes for his course on medieval Islamic North Africa that he offered at the University of Aix following his move there from Algeria.
For now, I just wanted to quickly mention that in addition to his monumental work on the history of the city of Fez [3], LeTourneau worked for a time on two important elements of Ibadi history.

أسفرت رحلتي إلى الأرشيفات الخارجية في فرنسا [1] نتائجا مذهلا من ضمنها وثائق عديدة من الأرشيف الخاص لدى المستشرق الفرنسي "روجي لا تورن." (١٩٠٧-١٩٧١) هذا الأرشيف [APOM7/1-29] يتكون من رسائله الشخصية والأكادمية ووثائق أخرى معطية إلى الأرشيفات بعد وفاته [2]. بعد ما أنهي ترتيب ملاحظاتي أنوي أن أضع محتويات الصنادق كلها هنا لفائدة الآخرين
أما الآن فأردت أن أشير إلى إسهامَي لا تورنو في دراسة الإباضية في المغرب إضافة إلى كتابه الممتاز حول تاريخ مدينة فاس [3]. أما الأول فهو دوره في نشر ترجمة فرنسية لكتاب السيرة وأخبار الأئمة لأبي زكرياء الورجلاني. سأركّز على هذه الترجمة في أطروحتي. بالنسبة للمداخلة الثانية في هي الوثائق المتعلّقة بمقاله المعروف حول ثورة أبي يزيد "النكاري" على الفاطميين في القرن العاشر الميلادي الذي نشرته "الكرارس التونسية "عام ١٩٥٣ [4]. يمكننا أن نتابع مراحل البحث من هذه الدراسة من خلال الوثائق في الأرشيف (انظر الصورة). بما أنّني أكتب وأقوم بالبحث حاليا فإني وجدت هذه الفرصة أن أرى "البنية التحتية " من عميلة البحث تجربة رائعة. الصورة الثانية عبارة عن ملاحظاته لمحاضراته حول تاريخ الخوارج في المغرب خلال العصور الوسطى التي درّسها في جامعة أكس بعد ما انتقل إلى تلك المدينة من الجزائر
